Buster Blog

Birthday - May 21, 2009

Came home tonight and found Sweetie in the lower condo compartment with a wet bloody bundle. It appeared that her baby had just popped out. What a tiny miracle. All of 3.75 ounces.

I put the condo up on my table to watch for siblings to be born, but there was just the one. He crawled up and over his momma a number of times before he got the hang of suckling.

However, after a few hours of Sweetie's milk and preening he was a fluffy 4 ounces.

6 ounces

Boy, is this little one in a hurry to see. He's already opened his left eye!

May 26, 2009

6.5 ounces

I don't believe it he has both eyes open! Kittens aren't supposed to open their eyes until they're eight to eleven days old.

May 27, 2009

6.5 ounces

Bobbin, as I've been calling him (referencing Willow's name for his children in the movie Willow) has an abcess on his throat. One of his parents must have punctured him when picking him up. He didn't like getting it opened, but it drained well.

June 1, 2009

10 ounces

Awww. How do you resist that cute tum tum? Okay, it's out of focus, but damn, he's cute. He started to purr today too. What a treasure.

June 13, 2009

Bobbin's shown steady growth and now he's a whole pound.

June 14, 2009

Bobbin tried scratching for the first time.

June 17, 2009

Saw Bobbin at the water bowl today, drinking like a big boy.

The heat came early this year and it quickly became too hot to run the dryer so my fuzzy slippers are still out and Buster thinks they make a great bed.

Buster started eating kibble.

He's still nursing, but he's got to do something with those fine teeth he's getting.

June 20, 2009

My slipper's are the perfect size for a Buster bed.

June 21, 2009

Buster's a month old today. He's exploring the whole house now. I asked out loud "What should I call you?" I clearly heard "Buster in my head. "Buster?" "Buster" I heard again. "Okay, Buster it is. Soon you'll be big enough for a collar", I said out loud. "What color would you like?", I asked him. "Green" came to mind. "Green?" I asked not liking the color myself. "Green" I heard. "Well then I'll have to get you a green one."

Buster has discovered toys. He thinks these little stuffed toys are great, even better than playing with his toes.

They grow up so quickly, don't they? This evening Buster let out a loud Squeel. I jumped up to see Hobbit standing over him as Sweetie also ran to see what the problem was. Was Daddy playing too hard with this resiliant little one? With all the rough and tumble he does with his parents what would it take to make him cry out so? No, Daddy was as surprised as we were. Buster was having his first poop. I scooped him up, ran for the box and put him in, followed by his concerned parents. He resumed his poop, sticking his tail ever higher into the air. Both his parents joined him in the box. Sweetie squated as if to show him they all did their business there and Hobbit buried the tiny poop as fast as it hit the litter. What parenting. No wonder the little guy is thriving so well.

Enjoy it while you can Buster, soon you'll be too big to sleep on the back of that chair.

June 27, 2009

When you're hungry, you're hungry, sometimes a guy's just got to eat, no matter where the milk bar happens to be or what he's got to do to partake.

Then when your tummy's full just nap where you are.

Tuffy, my "pride king" seems to approve of little Buster, at least so long as he's not a pest. Napping together is a great way to bond. Just wish they'd let me make the bed before they take it over.

July 1, 2009

My little companion, staying close.

July 6, 2009

Buster "helped" me work today. He'll sleep anywhere. This time he made my calculator his bed.

July 22, 2009

Round and round and round it goes. Trackball is kitten video games. Buster has more fun with this toy. The others did once, but they seem to have outgrown it.

July 23, 2009

What can I say Hobbit is a paws on father. He and Buster have a great bond. Human parents can learn from them.

August 10, 2009

I'm hungry too mom.

August 21, 2009

Sweetie takes mothering in stride - anytime, anywhere it's all okay with her.

Sweetie's gained the respect of the Tuffy clan too. She's been playing tag with Tuffy since she was big enough. Buster obviously thinks it's no big deal.

August 22, 2009

Buster has a new napping place. He climbs up into my microwave stand and curls up on top of my crock pot. It has an insulated cover and I keep the lid upside down so it's probably quite comfy. Sweetie trills at him, in her soft sweet voice, trying to reach him with her paw. She keeps a close eye on his whereabouts.

August 23, 2009

Buster's learning respect for Tuffy. He approaches him and touches noses before settling for a nap on the bed. If he has to go near Tuffy he's careful to not encroach on Tuffy's space

Recently I've caught all the kitties sharing the bed. They're scattered all over it with Tuffy in the middle. It's heart warming.

August 24, 2009

Today Buster was curled up atop my bed pillows. He's getting so big, yet he's still so small. Curled up he was the size of a salad plate. He was dreaming, big adventurous dreams, making him breath hard and twitch his nose and paws. He's so adorable.

In contrast - when awake he's a chip off the old block. He jumped from the microwave to the table, for the first time today. It was another mile stone. He also found his way to the top of one of the speakers, almost knocking down a glass candle holder. His father already knocked that one down, but I repaired it. Super glue can only do so much though.

I wound up picking him up by the scruff to remove him from the stereo wires. I held him against me and he reached his head up and kissed me on the cheek a couple times, as if to say "I'm sorry, I'll be good". When I let him down he climbed up to the crock pot and stayed there until his mother invited him to play with her.

I've noticed Sweetie plays more gently with him, letting him throw her down and get "the upper paw" from time to time. She's building his confidence. Hobbit, however, puts him through his paces and pushes his limits. It seems quite aggressive but Buster does not cry and keeps coming back for more.

August 26, 2009

Oops, wrong parent.

August 31, 2009

You're only little for a short while. Buster's small enough to tuck in on the window ledge.

September 1, 2009

Silly kitty.

September 20, 2009

Hobbit was using Buster as a pillow today. How cute.

September 22, 2009

The Tuffy clan are accepting Buster and letting him sleep side-by-side with them on my bed.

September 24, 2009

Oh boy, Buster and I are both sick. He's got it coming out of both ends. He's very good about taking his homeopathic medicine though.

October 1, 2009

We've had some cold nights lately so I've been leaving an afghan on the bed. Buster likes to be warm. He's not shy about inviting himself to join the Tuffy clan when they curl up on it. It warms my heart to see him so accepted.

October 6, 2009

Oh goody, Buster figured out how to jump up on the kitchen counters today. He jumps up and grabs the edging with his front claws then just walks up the towel over the door. Another mile stone.

October 7, 2009

I put all the kitties on a three-day broth fast so Buster's system could get a rest. It was an inspired idea. It's a lot easier than trying to isolate Buster. It should also dry up Sweetie's milk.

October 8, 2009

Had to boil a piece of chicken in the broth to get them to eat it. It worked. Buster's quite serious about not sharing his bits of chicken. He growls if anyone comes close, even me.

October 18, 2009

Yea, Buster's feeling better. He's playing with his mom a bit. It's good to see.

"Auntie" Missie makes a good baby sitter.

October 22, 2009

Okay, I'm thinking Buster has the family seafood allergy and the amount in their kibble is enough to irritate his system. I'll have to find food without any kind of seafood. What a task. He seems normal in many ways, but less playful, not gaining weight and his output is way too wet.

October 29, 2009

I'd say he's been fully accepted by the Tuffy clan.

November 20, 2009

Mother and son. Boy is he getting big.

November 26, 2009

Buster loves Thanksgiving. Buster loves turkey! I opened a can of turkey cat food and split it with all who were interested. Buster gobbled all he could get. Then there was my supper. These days I don't bother with a whole turkey for Thanksgiving, but I gave samples of drumstick to buster and the others. He love, love, loves turkey! Wait 'til he sees the whole one I roast for Christmas.

November 30, 2009

Did you know that cat food, wet and dry, may contain fish even though it's labeled poultry or other flavors? I trusted that poultry canned food contained only poultry, but it has fish and meat by-products. It makes it harder to feed Buster without triggering his allergy.

December 8, 2009

I love this kitten. All the places he could choose to sleep and he chooses to climb up into my arms and sleep on my chest. He's so precious.

December 9, 2009

Buster is so smart. It was cold and windy today. Our place is drafty. I kept my space heater on all day. Buster's the only one who's figured out the warmest place is right in front of the heater. He kept toasty all day.

December 11, 2009

Finally found a plain green collar for Buster. He looks real good in it. The bell was a bit surprising. When he scratched at it the bell wound up behind his head. He kept twisting his head around - right, left, right, left - trying to get a look at it. It was cute.

December 13, 2009

Went to make my bed and found Buster and his parents occupying it. I pulled the covers up and they stayed there.

December 20, 2009

Buster has accepted his collar, bell and all. It's so wonderful to call him and hear him come a running to me.

December 23, 2009

Someone played with my hair clip during the night and I could not find it when I got up. I've had to discourage Buster from this activity a few times so... My search had me probing under my kitchen appliances, shelves, etc. I found several of their toys but no hair clip. Buster was quite excited by the balls my search produced. He especially likes the one with the jingly bell in it.

Included in my finds was one of the missing catnip balls. It's the kind that's a two-part plastic shell, with holes in it, that you fill with catnip and snap together. Buster seems to be too young for it, but he had some funny reactions to the others drunken behavior.

I later found my hair clip under a shoe, in my bedroom.

December 25, 2009

I had lots of supervision when stuffing my turkey. I cooked the giblets and shared the liver amongst the kitties. Buster got more than his fair share by stealing from anyone who hesitated.

Buster was quite interested in the basting process and curious about the pumpkin pie.

Buster's manners have improved greatly as he's matured. He no longer tries to climb onto my dinner plate, but sits on the ottoman and waits for his share.

After dinner I pulled out their new toy. I got a kitty lure shaped like a mini fishing pole. It has a synthetic rabbits foot with a bell and a cluster of bright-colored ribbons at the end of an elastic cord. Buster can't get enough. He chases it back and forth and round and round the ottoman.

December 27, 2009

All I have to do is bump the lure toy in the drawer where I keep it and Buster comes running, followed by his parents and Tuffy. He's quite persistent in his pursuit of the lure. When he captures it he tries to walk away with it, usually under my chair.

The story continues.
